Venice Commission of Council of Europe’s Secretary General Responds to Azerbaijani Azadlyg Bloc’s Leaders

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Janni Bukikkio, the General Secretary of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, informed in writing to the leaders of the Azadlyg bloc -Ali Karimli, the Chairman of the National Front Party of Azerbaijan, Lala Shovkat, the Head of the Azerbaijani National Unity Movement and Ali Aliyev, the Chairman of the Citizen and Development Party of Azerbaijan, that he had familiarized himself with the legislation of changes and supplements in the Election Code, developed by the Azadlyg bloc.

"A letter from the bloc has already been submitted to the Venice Commission's experts and allies in the OSCE. These proposals will be considered during discussions for changes and supplements in the Election Code," Bukikkio noted.

The Chairman of the Venice Commission informed that discussions for changes in the Election Code of Azerbaijan would be considered in 2007.

"The Venice Commission, OSCE and IFES will hold discussions for changes in the Election Code of Azerbaijan at the beginning of Autumn, 2007. Representatives of the Government will actively take part in discussions over this issue," the Chairman said.

Azadlyg bloc unites three opposition parties - the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, the Citizen and Development Party of Azerbaijan and the Movement of National Unity of Azerbaijan.
