Zarbaliyeva / Regarding the events of the summit of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM ( Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) in Baku, the Azerbaijani police were on medium-security alert on 17 June. The Azerbaijani Deputy Interior Minister, Oruj Zalov, said to journalists on 18 June that complete security will be provided at the events in Baku. "The population was addressed to minimise the use of their cars. A temporary restriction was imposed on trucks and broken down vehicles into the city in order to prevent traffic jams. The restriction will be lifted after 19 June.
The Deputy Minister noted that the criminogenic situation in the country was under the control of the police and crime enforcement was held within the framework of laws. The number of crimes in Azerbaijan has decreased, compared to the first quarter of 2006, a lot of serious crimes were disclosed and gangs exposed.
