CE’s Ago Monitoring Group Meets with Heads of Several Azerbaijani NGOs

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / A delegation of the Ago Monitoring Group of the Council of Europe (CE) Ministerial Committee which on visit in Baku met with heads of several Azerbaijani NGOs on 5 June.

Human rights activist Arzu Abdullayeva, lawyer Hafiz Hasanov, head of 'For Civil Society' NGO, Eldar Ismayilov, and coordinator of 'For Free and Just Elections' Advisory Council, Chingiz Dadashev, were in attendance.

According to Abdullayeva, the representatives of the NGOs informed the guests of the problems in Azerbaijan related to holding of elections and the right for free meeting of the citizens.

During the meeting Ismayilov spoke on the defects in the laws and informed the members of the AGO Group of a new proposal on formation of election commissions via test system.

Dadashev, in his turn, informed of the mechanisms implemented while elections and noted that the structure he represents will oversee the course of the forthcoming elections. Speaking on weakness of enlightenment, mistakes in the activities of the Central Election Commission (CEC), he added that the Advisory Council along with the CEC would precise the list of electorate in Azerbaijan.
