Meeting of Experts on Delimitation and Demarcation of Azerbaijani-Russian Borders Begins in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Sheki / Trend corr. E.Guliyev / The meeting of experts on delimitation and demarcation of the Azerbaijani-Russian borders has begun in the Balakan region of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, which will continue for two days, the experts of both sides will discuss agreed plots of state borders between Azerbaijan and Russia. The border plot in the Balakan region is one of the three undefined plots. It is situated on the mountainside of the Big Caucasus range. The experts are expected to walk along the territory in order to define the borders exactly. The final document of the task groups will be included in the agenda of the 14th meeting of the commission on delimitation of state borders, which will be held in Baku. The 13th meeting of the commission was held in Makhachkala on the 11 and 12 July. Both parties agreed to continue discussions on the issue. Khalaf Khalafov, the Deputy Foreign Minister, headed the Azerbaijani delegation. Alexsander Yakovenko, the special ambassador of the Russian Foreign Ministry, represented the Russian Federation.

Presently, three plots of land remain undefined, which makes up 5% of the total border, including the bridge across the Samur River, the coastal wood mass in Khachmaz region and the plot in the Balakan region.
