Date of   Tajikistan President’s Visit to Azerbaijan Confirmed

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynov / The official visit of Tajikistan President, Emomali Rakhmon, to Azerbaijan is planned for 13-14 August, according to Tajikistan Foreign Ministry.

Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, visited Dushanbe on 15-16 March for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan-Tajikistan inter-state relationships. The program of the visit and the documents to be signed at high level negotiations are presently being developed. The projects of nine bilateral documents covering different fields, including economic, financial and cultural, are under development. A Tajik delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister is expected to visit Baku in the first ten days of August in order to complete the development of the program and its documents.

During Ilham Aliyev's visit in March to Dushanbe, an Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation was signed between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan. The Agreement stipulated allied character of bilateral relationships and for the unconditional support of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and inviolability of borders by official Dushanbe. Furthermore, another 10 agreements regulating bilateral relations in promoting investments, transport services, tourism, visa-less travel, customs and humanitarian assistance were signed. The parties also agreed to establish an inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation, which will control the implementation of the agreements. An agreement to open an Embassy and to provide for Tajikistan's President's return visit to Azerbaijan by the end of 2007 was achieved.
