Azerbaijan National Security Ministry’s Employees Detain Group of Persons Making an Attempt upon State Official’s Life

Trend I.Alizade / As a result of operative-search measures by the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan, a group of persons making an attempt upon State official's life was detained. The group was involved in illegal acquisition of ammunitions, contraband of narcotics, sale of false money banknotes, a source stated at the Ministry on 3 August.

During search at homes of resident of Absheron district, Elman Aliyev born in 1967, in Sumgayt city and Saray settlement, the employees of the Ministry discovered nearly 1kg of heroin and 70g of opium, as well as six false 100-dollar banknotes and bullets for Makarov pistol.

In addition, resident of Sumgayt city, Azizaga Mehdiyev, has been detained and two 100-dollar banknotes have been taken from him.

In addition, as a result of operative-search measures, the inhabitant of Mashdaga settlement, Tyargulu Mammadov born in 1972, who purchased six false 100-dollar banknotes from Mehdiyev and Chief of Sumgayt Line Police Department, Azad Guliyev, were detained. During searches at Guliyev's home in Saray settlement, ten false 100-dollar banknotes and more than 100g heroin were discovered.

A criminal case has been filed over the case. According to the decision of the court, the offenders have been arrested.

The searches made clear that the inhabitant of Sumgayt city, Chief of Interregional Department for Registration of Technical Inventory and Property Rights of the State Department for Registration of Technical Inventory and Property Rights, Arif Aslanov, had strife with the new Head of Executive Power of Absheron district, Zakir Farajov.

At the end of 2005 Aslanov offered $60.000 to the inhabitant of Guba district, Mammadhasan Agayev born in 1951, for murdering Farajov. As a result of difference between Aslanov and Agayev, the criminal plan was not successful.

On 21 July 2007 Aslanov and Agayev were found guilty and arrested.
