Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / Probably, the congress of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) will not to be held this year, the Deputy Chairman of the Party, Fuad Mustafayev, reported on 9 August.
Mustafayev noted that the APFP has branches in all Azerbaijani regions and the conferences on preparation for the congress have to be held in all regional and city branches. "Regional and city organizations are ready for the conferences. Under the decision of the organizing committee, preparations for the congress are in progress," Mustafayev added.
According to the Deputy Chairman, the branches are impeded in holding the meetings. In case obstacles are not put in the way of the branches, they will hold the conferences within several months and will choose a member for participation in the congress, he said.
"If we hold the conferences in autumn, the congress will be held at the end of the year. Otherwise, the congress will be postponed until 2008," Mustafayev stated.
The opposition APFP is a co-founder of the Azadlyg political bloc. It was founded by the ex-President Abulfaz Elchibey who was Chair until 2000. Since 2000, the party has been chaired by former MP Ali Karimli.
