Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / The US is to consider each case of violence and pressure against press representatives and to make answerable the blame ones.
" US position concerning press remains unchanged. We consider unacceptable violence and pressure against journalists by representatives of government, Anne Derse, the US ambassador to Azerbaijan, said at the opening ceremony of the autumn session of the Azerbaijani Parliament on 1 October.
One more journalist, the regional reporter of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) of the Azerbaijani opposition New Musavat newspaper, Khimeldostu Mehtiyev, was arrested due to resistance to police on 23 September. Mehtiyev was sentenced to 15 days in prison by the decision of the court. However, was released after four days. Mehtiyev said he underwent tortures.
Two officials of the US embassy visited Nakhchivan and investigated the case.
"I hope the system help citizens to fight against violence and protect their rights," Anne Derse said.
Presently, seven journalists are being kept in prison.
