Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Ramazanova / "Murdering Elmar Huseynov casts shadow on the Azerbaijani press. The crime should be disclosed and the offenders should be arrested," said the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Anne E. Derse, announcing the Grant Award named after Elmar Huseynov, which was established by the US Department of State.
"Democratic Governments should create favorable conditions so that the journalists can work independently and without fear to be arrested," the Ambassador said. This Award highlights the respect of the Department of State for the professionalism of Elmar Huseynov who is considered the symbol of the free press, Derse said.
According to Shahbaz Khuduoglu, Chairman of the Committee for Protection of Rights of Elmar Huseynov, the establishment of this award by the USA once again testifies that the USA is the guarantee of freedom of expressions and press.
The grant will work in two directions. Small guarantees are envisaged to be given. The first direction will cover TV journalism and the second - newspaper. The award will be given to one of 18 journalists for the best work. The winner's work will be placed on Internet.
