Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / Baku City Yasamal District Court did not bring the verdict on arrest of the editor-in-chief of the Azadlig newspaper, Ganimat Zahid. The lawsuit commenced by the Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister, Heydar Babayev, was partially allowed.
'Azerbaijanis Cover Mathew Bryza's Wedding Expenses' article published in the Azadlig on 29 August says that Babayev covered the expenses of Mathew Bryza and Zeyno Baran's wedding. The reports were disproved and under the verdict the newspaper will publish a disproof for the article.
"I expected the court to bring a verdict on my arrest," Zahid said to Trend. Although, Zahid will appeal the verdict. According to him, the verdict does not indicate the form of the disproof.
Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister accuses the editor-in-chief, as well as the author of the article, Adil Khalili, of offence and calumny. He demands attracting the journalists to criminal responsibility.
