Fans no longer believe Jay-Z’s retirement announcements

(news.sawf.org) - Rapper-turned-CEO Jay-Z says that his fans believe that he will never bid adieu to the music industry, as he has already surprised them by coming out of retirement before.

"I think I pulled the retirement rip cord too many times. People (were) looking at me like, 'Please shut up,'" the New York Daily News quoted him as telling the new XXL magazine.

Jay-Z, who is nowadays mixing cuts based on the Denzel Washington film American Gangster, said that staying away from the studio was just impossible for him.

The 37-year-old star also admitted that he was shocked to see Lil Wayne proclaiming himself the "greatest rapper alive", when the former retired for the first time.

"I think Lil Wayne is extremely talented, but do I think me and Lil Wayne should be in the same sentence? Me? No. He has to accumulate work. Put some classics under his belt," he said.

Jay-Z also said that he did not like being acknowledged by people as R& B diva Beyonce Knowles' boyfriend.

"People are only interested in (celebrity couples) three times: When you get together, when you break up and when you have a baby," he says.

"They don't have good intentions. People just want to manipulate the situation to benefit them. I think relationships are broken up because of the media," he added.
