Community Participates in Improving Inmates in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / An international scientific-practical conference took place in Russia's city of Ryazan with regards to the legal situation of inmates, problem in improving inmates, level and principles of implementing punishments, a source stated in Public Relations Department of Azerbaijan's Penal System.

Azerbaijan was represented at the conference by the delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Chief of the Penal System, Nazim Alekperov. The visit took place at the official invitation of Russia's Federal Service for Punishment Implementation. During the conference organized by Ryazan Academy of Law and Management, the Azerbaijani delegation spoke of the attention paid to the reforms in the penal system, improvement of detention conditions, involvement of the community in improving prisoners, realization of public control on the prisons, as well as construction of new prisons in the regions of the country.

The event participants were presented new normative and legal acts adopted in Azerbaijan with regards to the social adaptation of the persons serving their sentence, participation of the community in improving inmates, realization of public control on the prisons. It was stated that these are the first documents in the CIS countries and therefore, it is expedient to use their positive experience.

Within his visit, Alekperov met with the First Deputy Chief of Federal Service for Punishment Implementation, E.Petrukhin. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on development of the co-operation between the penal systems of the two countries.

The Head of Federal Service for Punishment Implementation made an official visit to Azerbaijan last month.
