Azerbaijan, Lankaran / Trend corr. P.Aliyeva / Eleven persons were brought to trial due to felling in the Lankaran region of Azerbaijan in 2007. The detained persons deforested about 178 cu m in Lankaran, which caused AZN 2,640, Teyyub Akhundov, the director of the Department to protect and restore woods in Lankaran, said to Trend on 10 November.
About 41 forest wardens were detained for illegal felling in 2007.
Felling cases became frequent in winter months due to gas supply problems in the region. About 3,000 cu m of woods were supplied to education and health care centres
