I.Alizadeh / The ruling New Azerbaijan Party considers that it is necessary to reveal the reasons in order to appreciate the arrest of the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijani newspaper Azadlig, Ganimat Zahidov, the executive secretary of the party, MP Ali Akhundov, said on 12 November.
The Yasamal District Court of Baku sentenced Zahidov to two months detention on 11 November. Zahidov was charged with hooliganism and assault. If the accusations against Zahidov are proven he could face three years in prison.
According to Ahmadov, all citizens should act within the law including journalists and officials.
The New Azerbaijan party was founded by Heydar Aliyev in 1992.
