Duran Duran Gigs Disrupted By Broadway Strike

(contactmusic.com ) - Veteran group Duran Duran have been forced to call off three New York City concerts as a result of the strike on Broadway. The Ordinary World band were midway through a run of gigs at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre when protesters set up picket-lines in front of theatres on Saturday (10Nov07). As a result, Duran Duran have postponed their Saturday show, but still hope to move their concerts on Monday (12Nov07) and Tuesday (13Nov07) to a nearby New York venue. The groups's manager Wendy Laister says she hopes to reschedule Saturday's concert shortly too. Broadway has been thrown into turmoil with more than 20 hit plays and musicals including The Lion King and Mamma Mia closing because of strikes by disgruntled stagehands. The protestors, who are responsible for moving scenery and equipment, set up picket-lines on Saturday. It is unclear how long the strike will last.
