Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / An amnesty act may be signed on the Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis, a member of the Pardon Commission Azay Guliyev said to journalists on 22 November.
The Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis is usually celebrated on 31 December. Every year one amnesty act is signed on the eve of the holiday.
According to Guliyev, at present the Pardon Commission is considering the pardon appeals, after which time the final list of those to be pardoned will be submitted to the Azerbaijani President.
With regards to the pardoning of the journalists, Guliyev said he opposes the arrests of media representatives, but pardoning press representatives is beyond the Commission's power.
There are 9 jailed journalists in Azerbaijan. International organizations consider the arrests of media representatives to be a restriction of freedom of speech and press in Azerbaijan.
