Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / The names of the judging candidates to the European Court have been announced.
To judge in the European Court, the Azerbaijani Juridical Council proposed the candidature of Judge Khanlar Hajiyev, Judge of the Azizbayov District of Baku, Rashad Hasanov and Judge of the Nasimi District of Baku, Aygun Abdullayeva, it was reported by Ramiz Rzayev, Judge of the Azerbaijani Supreme Court.
The candidates must have a knowledge and experience in human rights, particularly regarding the convention on human rights protection and freedom and the European Court on Human Rights, and must also speak either French or English.
The 17 candidates were nominated by NGOs and individuals in compliance with the recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The first list of candidates included the names Khanlar Hajiyev, Zakir Guliyev and Saadat Novruzova.
PACE did not approve the list submitted by Azerbaijan during the autumn session as the candidates did not correspond to PACE's criteria.
