Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Ramazanova / The chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee on Families, Women and Children Hijran Huseynova called on Azerbaijani state bodies and NGOs to closely cooperate in fighting against violence on women.
"NGOs are the basis of civil society. Therefore, this can produce good results if they support and cooperate with us," Huseynova said at the conference on No Violence for Women in Baku on 23 November.
According to Huseynova, problems are caused by the fact that women do not know their rights. "That is why it is necessary to carry out education beginning at schools. Children should be informed of the problems of violence," she said.
As to trafficking of Azerbaijani women, Huseynova said it is also caused by rights illiteracy. "Women should join the development process which is currently ongoing in the country. We should work with each woman in order to inform them of their rights," Huseynova urged.
