Azerbaijani Public Committee Makes Proposals on Prisoners

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / The Public Committee at the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry submitted proposals concerning the correction and education of prisoners.

Libraries will be established in prisons, and training on human rights and freedom is planned to be implemented, Sahib Mammadov, the Public Committee coordinator, said. According to Sahib, the Committee will meet on 27 November.

The key issues of the Committee were directed towards implementing monitoring and control over the Penal Services. The Committee is also planning to propose to inject changes to the legislation.

The first monitoring will be held in the Correction Prison 1 in the near future. The Committee visited 19 prisons during 2007.
