Mutual Broadcasting of Azerbaijani and Russian Channels to be Tackled by End of 2007 (video)
Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The issue concerning the mutual broadcasting of the Azerbaijani and Russian channels are to be resolved by the end of the year. The final decision is to be taken by the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia. The meeting of the commission will be implemented in Moscow in the middle of December, Vasili Istratov, the Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, reported to journalists.
The Azerbaijani National TV Broadcasting Council made the decision at the beginning of the year to stop the broadcasting of foreign channels in Azerbaijan including the Russian ORT channel. Another Russian RTR Planet channel may be broadcast in Azerbaijan if the Azerbaijani State AZTV channel is to be broadcast in Russia.
Having the political issue settled, all that remains are the technical issues. Russia submitted its technical proposals to Azerbaijan in September and in turn Azerbaijan submitted its technical proposal to Russia in October.
