Appeal for Arrest of Representative of Azerbaijani Candidate for Presidential Position in Georgia

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / The attorney of the head of the election staff of Fazil Aliyev, an Azerbaijani standing for presidential elections in Georgia, made an appeal against the 2-month imprisonment sentence for his client, Aliyev said to Trend on 1 December.

On 27 November, the head of Aliyev's election staff, Dashgin Gulmammadov, was detained in Tbilisi by Georgian law-enforcement bodies. Initially he was accused of insult charges because of the insulting expressions which were placed in an internet site (the site and the name of the person who was insulted was not divulged). However, later he was announced guilty of stimulation of national hatred and was sentenced to 2-month prison term.

According to Aliyev, the attorney made an appeal and is currently negotiating with officials to release Gulmammadov. He believes Gulmammadov will be released from prison in near future.
