Jailed Chief Editor of Azerbaijani Newspaper on Hunger-Strike

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The jailed chief editor of the Azerbaijani Mukhalifat newspaper Rovshan Kabirli launched a hunger-strike on 14 December, his attorney Rashid Hajili said.

On 16 April, the Yasamal District Court sentenced the chief editor of the Mukhalifat newspaper Rovshan Kabirli and an editor in the newspaper Yashar Agazadeh to 2-year-6-month imprisonment on defamation charge.

The article named A.M.A.Y. is the trade mark of the Aliyevs published in the Mukhalifat said that Jalal Aliyev was the patron of AMAY trade centre.

The attorney said that on 13 December Agazadeh launched a hunger-strike as a sign of solidarity with jailed journalist Ganimat Zahid.

Hajili said he was not informed of the journalist's health condition.

On 25 December, the Supreme Court will consider the appeal of Rovshan Kabirli and Yashar Agazadeh.
