PACE Ad Hoc Committee to Discuss Selection of Azerbaijani Judge to European Court

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Alizade / PACE Ad Hoc Committee on Selection of Judges to the European Court on Human Rights will discuss the selection of the Azerbaijani judges to the European Court. "According to the procedure, Azerbaijan has put forward three candidates for being selected as judges to the European Court. During Ad Hoc Committee's session, interviews will be held with the candidates and one of them will be selected," Deputy Head of Azerbaijan's delegation to the PACE, MP Gultakin Hajiyeva, said on 15 December.

The candidates are Azerbaijan's current judge to the European Court on Human Rights, Khanlar Hajiyev, judge of Baku's Azizbayov District Court, Rashad Hasanov, and judge of Baku's Nasimi District Court, Aygun Abdullayeva.

Hajiyeva said that the selection of the Azerbaijani judge to the European Court will be considered by the PACE session. "The candidate selected by the Ad Hoc Committee will be presented to the PACE for being appointed to the position. The final decision will be made by the PACE members," she said.

Ad Hoc Committee's session on selection of judges to the European Court will take place on 17 December in Paris. Azerbaijan will be represented at the session by Gultakin Hajiyeva.

Along with Azerbaijan, the session will be attended by Latvia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Moldova and Slovenia.
