Detained Chief of Azerbaijani Mukhalifat Newspaper Stops Hunger Strike

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / The detained editor of the Azerbaijani Mukhalifat newspaper stopped hunger strike, stated from the Department on Communication with Public of the Central Department of Penal Service at the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry.

The editor Yashar Agazadeh launched hunger strike on 13 December due to arrest of the Azerbaijani Azadlig newspaper Ganimat Zahid.

Zahid demonstrating against pressure on journalists launched hunger strike. Zahid stopped hunger strike after meeting with the leadership of the Investigation Cell 1.

The chief editor of the Mukhalifat newspaper Rovshan Kabirli and Agazadeh were accused with defarmation by the lawsuit of the MP Jalal Aliyev and were sentenced to two years and six months of imprisonment by the Yasamal District Court of Baku from 16 April.

Appeal by journalists will be considered by the Azerbaijani Supreme Court on 25 December.
