Record Low Temperature Level Observed in   Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / A record low temperature was observed on the eve of 7 January in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Head hydrologist of the Forecast Bureau of the National Hydro metrology Department at the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, Asif Verdiyev, said to Trend agency on 7 January that the temperature reached minus 6 degrees in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula on 7 January.

The temperatures have never reached such level in the city before. Such temperatures were observed in 1935 then the temperature reached minus 3.5 degrees. Verdiyev said that the snow fall during the last three days in Baku and Absheron Peninsula made up the total monthly norm.

The temperature fell in Azerbaijan within three days. A half metre of snow fell in the south and north regions of Azerbaijan. Traffic movement has been suspended due to the icy conditions of the roads.

The weather will stabilize in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula for two days. There will be clouds and no rain.

The temperature will be 3 to 6 degrees during day and 0 to minus 6 at night in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula on 8 and 9 January.
