Court Provides Permission for Participation of Azerbaijan’s Former Health Minister in Court Process of His Lawsuit against National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The court provided permission for participation of Azerbaijan's former Health Minister, Ali Insanov, in the court process of his lawsuit against the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

Insanov's lawyer Togrul Babayev reported to Trend that during the preparatory session in Sabail District Court in Baku, the petition for Ali Insanov's participation in the court process was ensured.

According to the decision, the former Minister was removed from membership. According to the lawyer, the judge Faig Gasimov sent a letter to the Academy on Insanov's removal and Insanov was removed on the basis of this letter. However, the representative of the Academy said that Insanov was not removed from the Academy because of this letter.

The court process will continue on 22 January with the participation of the ex-Minister. Insanov wants to involve the Court on Heinous Crimes of Azerbaijan as defendant to consider validating the Academy's decision.

Insanov was detained in October, 2005. He is accused of attempting a coup d'etat and causing mass riots. By the decision made by the Azerbaijani Court on Heinous Crimes dated 20 April, Ali Insanov was found guilty in appropriation of property and abuse of power and sentenced to 11 years imprisonment.
