Georgia, Tbilisi, 24 January / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / A new opposition party Development of Georgian Regions has been founded by Dashgin Gulmammadov, the president of the National Assembly of Georgian Azerbaijanis. The Constituent Assembly of the party will be held in Tbilisi in the near future, Gulmammadov said to Trend on 23 January.
According to Gulmammadov, about 150 activists and 30,000 Georgian citizens have expressed their wish to participate in the Assembly. "We will submit the documents to the Justice Ministry for registration after the Assembly," he said.
The main aim of the party is to participate in the parliamentary elections. "This party will be aimed at those who wish to develop the Georgian regions, human rights, democratic values and the construction of a legal government. All Georgian citizens may join the party," Gulmammadov said.
At the initial stage the party is to take part in the elections independently. However, if the political position of any political party coincides with that of the Development of Georgian Regions Party, then that party may join the political bloc of the country. "During the Assembly the party will elect the chairman, pass the Charter and take steps for the future of the party," he noted. Fazil Aliyev, the former candidate for the presidential post in Georgia, is one of the main candidates for the chairmanship post of the party.
