( dpa ) - Maria Sharapova won her third Grand Slam title in five years with as 7-5, 6-3 victory over Serb Ana Ivanovic at the Australian Open.
The Russian claimed the battle of 20-year-olds to add the Melbourne honours to 2004 Wimbledon and 2006 US Open crowns. She lost the 2007 Melbourne final to Serena Williams.
Sharapova improved to 3-2 over fourth seed Ivanovic, who will move to world number two on Monday behind Justine Henin.
The loss was the second for Ivanovic in a Grand Slam final after going down to Henin last year at Roland Garros.
