( dpa )- Brazilian driver Nelson Angelo Piquet, known as Nelsinho and signed by Renault for the upcoming Formula 1 season, received his new private plane Wednesday.

The son of three-time world champion Nelson Piquet got the keys to the plane - a Cessna of the Citation Mustang type valued at 2.6 million dollars - from Rui Thomaz de Aquino , the president of the Brazilian airline TAM.

"I am going to be able to devote more time to training, reduce distances and gain precious hours," Nelsinho Piquet said.

The Brazilian driver, who will partner Fernando Alonso at Renault this season, said he will hire a pilot, because - unlike his renowned father - he has not qualified to handle a plane himself.

Piquet's new Cessna can fly at a speed of up to 630 kilometres per hour and reach an altitude of 41,000 feet.
