Dave Clark Five singer Mike Smith dies aged 64

(dpa) - Mike Smith, lead singer of 1960s British pop group The Dave Clark Five, has died at the age of 64, his agent confirmed Friday.

The singer died from complications resulting from a spinal cord injury sustained in 2003 which left him paralyzed from the waist down.

He died from pneumonia in a hospital at Stoke Mandeville in Buckinghamshire, near London, his US agent, Margo Lewis, confirmed.

The Dave Clark Five had 19 UK Top 40 hits, including Bits and Pieces and the number one single Glad All Over.

The group are due to be inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, alongside acts including Madonna, John Mellencamp and Leonard Cohen.
