Building Damaged by Collapse of Another to be Reconsidered in Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 April / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The 12-storeyed building damaged by collapse of another building will be reconstructed. The work is expected to be launched in May, the residents of the building stated during the press-conference.

On 28 August 2008 at about 6.00pm, the building which was under construction by the Mutaffakir company collapsed in the Mukhtarov Street. As a result, twenty-five people died and six were injured.

Cabinet of Ministers issued an order to reconstruct the building from 21 February.

The damaged building will be pulled down and a new one will be constructed. The documents of the new project will be developed by 1 May 2008. Later, a tender will be announced for construction of the building. The construction work is expected to be completed within 18 months.

The residents of the building sent a gratuity letter to the President.

The company's Engineer General- Askar Aliyev, Master Builders -Farhad Hasanov and Gadir Salimov, Mursal Hasanov, Architect -Eldar Rahimov and the head of the housing department at the Baku Administration -Akif Maharramov, were all detained in connection with the incident.

On 19 November, the jailed Director General of Mutafakkir -Ali Muradov died in the hospital of the Penitentiary Service due to the heart failure. After his death, the criminal case against him was closed.
