Numbers on Hunger-strike Increasing

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 April / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / More people have joined the hunger-strike launched by Eynulla Fatullayev, editor-in-chief of Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers.

Janmirza Mirzoyev, a military expert, Rovshan Guliyev, a member of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Supreme Assembly, SAli Azizoglu and Neymat Huseynli, employees of the Gundalik Azerbaijan newspaper, Tural Abbasli and Nuraddin Babayev, chairmen of Musavat and Citizen and Development parties, have all joined the hunger-strike on 7 April, Nuraddin Babayev reported to Trend on 7 April.

On 26 March, Eynulla Fatullayev, editor-in-chief of Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers went on a hunger-strike in demand for objective consideration of his case, release of the arrested journalists and for concrete protection measures to be applied by the Council of Europe and OSCE.

In support of Fatullayev, various journalists, representative of parties and human right activists have also undergone a hunger-strike for 12 days.

According to Babayev, the new participants will go on a hunger-strike for three days.

Miklosh Kharashti, OSCE representative on freedom of press, is expected to visit Fatullayev and the journalists.
