Azerbaijani Gymnast Wins Silver and Bronze medals in Grand Prix

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 April / Trend corr. Z.Safarov / The third final all-round competition of Grand Prix finished in Brno, Czech.

Aliya Garayeva, the Azerbaijani gymnast, won silver and bronze medals in the final all-round competitions in the third stage of the Grand Prix.

Garayeva, European Champion, who gained the Olympic license for the World Championship in Patras in 2007, collected 72,075 points beating the gymnast Marina Shpecht. The current competition is being held without participation of the Ukrainian team and Russian gymnasts Vera Sesina and Evgeni Kanayeva.

According to the Azerbaijani Gymnastic Federation, Garayeva collected 18.15 points and took the third place. During the other games, Garayev settled for fifth place in skipping rope and ribbon, and sixth place with clips.

Another gymnast, Anna Gurbanova, won the fourth place with 17.325 points. During the other games, Gurbanova took fifth place with clips, six with band and eight with skipping-rope.

The next important competition for Garayeva and Gurbanova will be the World Cup in Slovenia scheduled for 12 and 13 April. Another Azerbaijani gymnast Zeynab Jabadli will participate in the International Tournament in Kalamat, Greece.
