Role of Religion in Peaceful Solution of Conflicts to be Discussed in Moscow

Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 April /corr. Trend I.Alizade / The importance and prospects of the inter-religious dialogue for peaceful solution of the conflicts that exist in the world will be discussed in Moscow at the meeting attended by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and outstanding religious figures.

"In addition, the meeting is expected to discuss the issue of establishing Inter-Religious Consultation Council under auspice of the UNO," a source at Caucasus Muslim Department reported to Trend .

"Moreover, discussions will be organized on the position of religion in the society and establishment of a high-level working group," the same source stated.

Azerbaijan will be represented at the meeting by the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Department, Sheikh Ul Islam Allahshukur Pashazade. He will deliver a report at the meeting.

The meeting is also expected to be attended by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy IV, President of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation, Arthur Schneier, high-ranking representative of Vatican, Head Rabbi of Israel, Yon Master, Archbishop of Finland, and Jukka Paarma.

The initiative of establishing an Inter-Religious Consultation Council under auspice of the UNO was made and reflected in the closing document of the worldwide summit of the religious leaders in Moscow in 2006 by the Co-chair of the CIS Inter-Religious Council, Allahshukur Pashazade and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy IV.
