Heydar Aliyev Foundation Presents Music Album on Rafig Babayev’s Creative Work

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 April / corr. Trend S. Agayev/ The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has released a musical album dedicated to Rafig Babayev, to a well-known Azerbaijani compositor and pianist in Baku on 11 April.

The album includes two DVD discs released on the basis of archive materials telling the life story and creative work of the compositor and eight CD discs covering the selected works of compositor.

"Rafig Bababyev is a well-known innovator who brought new spirit to music of 1970th and 1980th, laying foundation for a new stage in Azerbaijani music. His life was cut short by an act of terrorism committed by Armenians in March 1994 in Baku Metro. The album released by Heydar Aliyev Foundation will serve as a sign of respect in the memory of all the victims of terrorism act," said Mehriban Aliyeva, the Good-Will Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO and MP of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani parliament) during the presentation.

In total 32 acts of terrorism committed in Azerbaijan by Armenians, have claimed the lives of over 2,000 civilians for the last years.

Rafig Bababyev was the founder of folklore and jazz band 'Jangi'. He composed beautiful music with the help of folklore instruments and could merge any two, totally different, music's from different parts of the world in a beautiful way. He was the people's artist of Azerbaijan.

Rafig Babayev's tragic death has shaken not only Azerbaijanis, but also all international community. He became the victim of the terror along with women, children and elderly people who got killed on 19 March 1994 as a result of terrorist act by the Armenian extremists. The explosion in the underground station cut short the life of the musician in the most important stage of his life.
