Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 April /corr. Trend J.Babayeva / Azerbaijan possesses enough natural waters to cover its demand, Huseyn Bagirov, Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, stated while briefing the media on 25 April.
The volume of water reserves in Azerbaijan makes up about 32bln cu.m. Out the aforementioned amount, 27-28bln cu.m comes from outside the country in dirty conditions. Some 8.67bln cu.m of water reserves of Azerbaijan concentrates in underground basins. The underwater waters make up 23% of gross water reserves.
According to Bagirov, Azerbaijan should create its ecological industry, carefully use the existing water reserves and avoid polluting them.
"There is a need to establish more cleaning facilities in Azerbaijan in order to clean the volume of water for repeat use, and thus to ensure our water security," the Minister said.
Azerbaijan is considered as a country possessing least water supplies in South Caucasus. Thus, the volume of water per capita in Azerbaijan is 2.2 times less than Georgia and 1.7 times than Armenia. In addition, some 70% of river water reserves of Azerbaijan are accumulated by the transit rivers.
