Azerbaijani Human Right Activists Suggest Council of Europe Program to Fight against Corruption

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 April / corr. Trend K. Ramazanova/ The monitoring of the commitments undertaken by Azerbaijan before the Council of Europe should be strengthened, the human rights activist Arzu Abdullayeva said to the media on 28 April after her meeting with Yan Kubish, chairman of Committee of Minister of the Council of Europe.

"We have suggested realizing a real program to fight against corruption," Abdullayeva said. She also said that human rights and arrested journalists were discussed during the meeting.

The chairman of the Committee of Ministers said that he had discussed the situation regarding the arrested journalists with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Abdullayeva, the human rights activists proposed that international observers should cooperate closely with the domestic observers during the election period in Azerbaijan.
