Azerbaijan Increases Expenditure Further for Education in 2008

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 April / corr. Trend I. Alizade/ Azerbaijan has further increased expenditure for education for 2008. According to Trend , the Bill on Changes to the State Budget for 2008 envisages increase in the education expenditures by 18.6% in 2008.

The education expenditure of the country was approved at AZN973.873.000 for the 2008 State Budget.

After the changes, the budget expenditure for education will be increased to AZN1,115,000,000. Some AZN71 mln will be allocated for pre-school and primary education, AZN575.9mln for unfinished secondary and secondary education, AZN38.3mln for boarding schools, AZN50.696mln for vocational schools and lycees, AZN97.5mln for higher education, AZN3.6mln for investment within education and AZN277.7 mln for the other education purposes.

On 2 May, the Azerbaijani Parliament will consider the revised public budget for 2008. "Parliament received a project to reconsider and amend the public budget for 2008," Vahid Ahmadov, a member of the standing parliamentary commission on economic policy, said to Trend on 28 April.

The document included new yearly forecasts of budget revenues to the amount of AZN 10.287 bln and expenditure to the amount of AZN 10.530 bln. Previously, budget revenues were expected to comprise AZN 7.383bln in 2008 and expenditure AZN 8.509bln. If the changes are approved, the Azerbaijani budget's revenue will rise by some 43% this year and expenditures by 26%.

The cabinet will report on the fulfilment of the public budget of 2007 at the parliamentary meeting on 2 May.
