Azerbaijani Football Champion Intends to Pass Two Stages in Championship League

Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 May / Trend News corr R. Ergun/ The President of Inter football team, latter-day champion of the Azerbaijani Premier League, Georgi Nikolov stated that his team would pass two stages in the Championship League. "The club will strengthen its staff to gain a success in the Championship League. Inter can pass one or even two stages in the League," Nikolov said to Trend News on 29 May.

Inter gained Champion title at the last 28th tournament of the Premier League after beating Gabala team, 4:0.

So far, no Azerbaijani team has ever managed to pass even two stages in the Championship League.

Nikolov did not comment on the budget of the club and the prizes of its football players. He said that is club's internal affair.

Nikolov said that a new contract would be signed with present chief coach of the team Valentin Khodukin. "We do not intend to dismiss the chief coach. He will leave the team when he wishes. Khodukin's contract will expire in July. We want to sign a new contract with him," he said.

In the history of Azerbaijani football Valentin Khodukin is the first foreign coach who won the Championship of the country. No foreign specialist had either won a champion title or the cup ever before. Before Khodukin, Inter's chief coach had been a Ukrainian Anatoliy Konkov.

An event devoted to Inter's victory in Azerbaijani Premier League will be held on 7 June.
