Tourist Number Doubled in Azerbaijani Southern Region
Azerbaijan, Lankaran, 10 June / Trend corr. P.Aliyeva / The number of tourists has risen by 40% in the southern region in Azerbaijan. Ilgar Azimov, Advisor in the Culture and Tourism Department in Lankaran region, told Trend that over 1,500 tourists have visited Lankaran from January to May 2008, against 400 tourists in the mentioned period in 2007.
About 4,000 tourists visited Lankaran in 2006 and near 5,000 - in 2007.
The number of tourists is expected to reach 6,000 in 2008. Azimov said that the new opened rest zones attract more tourists to the region.
Lankaran region is located 270km south of Baku.
