Azerbaijan’s Russian-language Press Takes Firm and Fitting Position – World Russian Press Association’s President

Russia, Moscow, 14 June / Trend corr R. Agayev/ "We are proud to see our Azerbaijani friends not only preserving a contingent of Russian-language press in Azerbaijan, but also enhancing it. Today we can say that Russian-language press in Azerbaijan has taken a very firm, good and fitting position," Vitaliy Ignatenko, President of World Russian Press Association, Director General of ITAR-TASS news agency, said to Trend on 13 June when summarizing the results of the 10th World Congress of Russian Press taking place in Moscow.

Ignatenko stressed Azerbaijan had been participating in joint work since the 1st congress. " Azerbaijan represents one of the most active journalistic groups in CIS," he said.

According to Ignatenko, an important thing is not that the World Congress of Russian Press is taking place 10th time, but that it has raised the work and interaction between newspapers, magazines, television and radio beyond Russia to a new stage of cooperation.

"It is very important for us that it was this Congress in which Russia's President, Prime Minister, head of presidential administration participated. Thus, we felt we are needed. We will always seek implementation of the hopes of our countries' heads," Ignatenko said.

From 11 to 14 June, International Trade Centre in Moscow is hosting 10th World Congress of Russian Press including Russian and foreign chief editors, publishers and leading journalists, as well as Russian national media, news agencies, head of publishing houses and news holdings, participants and guests from 70 countries. The purpose of the forum is to discuss present situation in Russian-language foreign press and the role of the Russian language in development of world civilization.

The role and place of the World Russian Press Association in the life of Russian speaking diasporas on the background of globalization is an important subject of discussion at the meeting.
