Legionaries’ Limit in Azerbaijani Football  Liquidated

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 June / corr. Trend News R.Ergun / The limit of legionaries, playing in the national football premier-league was liquidated in Azerbaijan for the first time. "We decided to liquidate the legionaries' limit after discussions with the club chiefs. The football clubs will be allowed to use unlimited number of legionaries during the match in the next season of the Azerbaijani premier-league," Rauf Aliyev, the vice-president of the Azerbaijani Football Federation Association (AFFA), told Trend in an exclusive interview on 14 June.

The clubs were allowed to use only 7 legionary footballer in the last season of the Azerbaijani premier-league. The decision to cancel limit was taken at a meeting held at the administrative office of the AFFA.

The vice-president stated that serious requirements will be put for clubs beginning from next year. "Every club must have reserve team and the championship must be held among them. Moreover, the championship will be organized among 17-year old footballers. The club, not having its own stadium, will not be allowed to play in the premier league," Aliyev said.

The AFFA vice-president also expressed his certainty that Ramin Musayev, the president of the Professional Football League (PFL) and a former vice-president of the Neftchi Club, will fulfill their job successfully.
