Turkey to make do with weakened squad against Germany

Turkey have not asked UEFA to call up any replacements for Wednesday's Euro 2008 semi-final against Germany in Basle, UEFA director of communications William Gaillard confirmed on Tuesday.

"We have received no request from the Turkish football federation to bring in players because of injuries or suspension," said Gaillard at a press conference in Vienna.

Fatih Terim has seen his squad has been decimated by injuries and suspensions and the coach has said he could potentially have just 12 outfield players and two goalkeepers available for the clash with Germany.

On Monday, UEFA turned down an appeal by Turkey against the two- match ban handed down to goalkeeper Volkan Demirel.

Volkan was sent off during his side's Group A 3-2 victory over Czech Republic for pushing Czech striker Jan Koller to the ground.

Turkey will also be without Tuncay Sanli, Arda Turan, Volkan Demirel and Emre Asik because of suspension, while Emre Gungor and Nihat Kahveci will not be available because of injury.

There are also doubts over the availability of Servet Cetin, Emre Belozoglu, Tumer Metin and Ayhan Akman.

Terim has admitted that he might be forced to use third-choice goalkeeper Tolgan Zengin as an outfield player if necessary.
