Azerbaijani Journalists Make Another Appeal to European Court
Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 June / Trend News corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Journalists from Azerbaijan made another court appeal to the European Court of Human rights.
Intigam Aliyev, President of the Juridical Enlightenment Association, stated that the journalists Elshad Mammadov (Yeni Musavat newspaper), Elshan Mammadaliyev (Gundalik Azerbaijan), Fikrat Huseynov (Azadlig), Chingiz Sultanov (Realni Azerbaijan), Haji Zeynalov (Ayna -Zerkalo), Valeh Mehtiyev (Baku-Khabar), Ramiz Najafli (independent journalist) and Sabuhi Nasibov (Zerkalo) made a court appeal due to violation of their rights on openness of courts (Article 6), as well as to get and release information (Article 10) and non-susceptibility of discrimination (Article 14), which are promoted by the Convention to protect human rights.
The lawsuits, filed against journalists, not allowed to the court process on the criminal case over former Health Minister, Ali Insanov, and other persons, against the Grave Crime Court, Court Controllers and Officers Department under the Justice Ministry and judges involved into the process, were rejected by Azerbaijani Courts.
The European Court of Human rights received two appeals by Rovshan Kabirli, chief editor of the Mukhalifat newspaper, and Yashar Agazade, journalist, for consideration. The aforesaid persons made a court appeal due to violation of their rights to get and release information (Article10) and openness of courts(Article 6).
Thethree detained journalists held in Azerbaijan are Ganimat Zahid, chief editor of Azadlig newspaper, Mirza Sakit, a journalist of Azadlig newspaper, and Eynulla Fatullayev, chief editor of Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realni Azerbaijan newspapers.
