Azerbaijani Judges Invited to International Meeting in Armenia

Azerbaijan, Baku, 7 July / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The Public Union of Judges (PUJ) of Azerbaijan was invited to a meeting of the International Association of Judges to be held in Armenia, Aladdin Jafarov, the chairman of the organization, said.

The Union appealed to the International Association of Judges to obtain membership at this organization in 2006, whilst they responded only in 2008, Jafarov said at the meeting of PUJ on 5 July.

According to Jafarov, Azerbaijani judges are invited as an observer to a meeting of the International Association of Judges to be held from 7 to 11 September.

The International Association includes similar unions from 73 countries, including 34 from Europe.

The chairman of the Union submitted to the meeting a report on its activities and work done by this organization within 2007.

Jafarov said that Internet-site of the Union, which was to open soon, was being designed.

A new composition of the organization, which includes nine people, has been elected and Jafarov, the chairman of Yasamal District Court ofBaku, was re-elected the head of the PUJ through open vote held at the meeting of this organization.

It was decided to organize a working group in charge of developing proposals on the draft supplements to the Administrative and Procedural Code at the meeting. After examining proposals the working group will present them to the Judicial and Legal Council as a final project

During the meeting it was decided to establish an electronic data base at courts. At present, majority of courts uses registration system, experienced during the Soviet period. New program will enable to collect information about criminal cases, which are at the execu1tion of each of judge, their registration, and complaints on sentences.
