Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 July / corr Trend I.Alizade / UN International Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA) is prepared to render assistance to Azerbaijan in the realization of a research nuclear reactor.
"IAEA agrees that Azerbaijan established its own nuclear reactor. Shoudl the government appeals, the IAEA can render assistance," Fuad Ismayilov, Azerbaijani representative at the IAEA told Trend .
He said that Azerbaijani scientists and IAEA experts are in talks on the construction of the nuclear reactor.
Place and time to commence the construction of the nuclear reactor will be defined though joint discussions.
The IAEA has officially allowed Azerbaijan to construct the first nuclear reactor this year.
The construction of the facility will commence in 2009 and complete by 2010.
The Azerbaijani Institute of Radiation Problems has prepared and submitted to the Government a package of proposal on the construction of a nuclear power station in Azerbaijan. The institute urges the importance of establishing an alternative energy source in Azerbaijan.
