Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 October / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Students of the Independent Azerbaijan University appealed the European Court to complain on violation of their right of assembly. Intigam Aliyev, defendant of students' rights at the European Court, said.
Students group of the Independent Azerbaijan University applied to the Baku City Administration on 27 September in 2006. The students wanted to hold peace action protesting against rough violation of their rights for education, information and fair juridical investigation, which the authorities prevented.
According to the students' address, action would take place from 11.00AM to 01.00PM on 5 October in 2006 under slogan of Stop corruption in education system!, Let right of education be restored, Let falsifiers be involved into responsibility!, as well as Let stop discrimination of students of private universities and with 1,000 people's participation.
It was planned to hold action in front of a building of the Independent Azerbaijan University or the Azerbaijani Ministry of Education depending on decision of the City Administration. The Baku City Administration rejected student's address.
Their second address to hold action was rejected, as well.
Despite of students' appeal to local courts, their petition were not fulfilled.
Plaintiffs request the European Court for human rights to restore their violated rights.
A one more complaint of the Independent Azerbaijan University' student on violation of education right was sent to the European Court in September 2007.
The Ministry of Education suspended the Independent Azerbaijan University in 2005 because of low quality of education and students' illegal admission.
