Narimanov District Police Station Appeals against Court Decision Resuming Activity of Abu Bakr Mosque in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 October / Trend , corr. I.Alizade / On 30 October, Narimanov District Police Station appealed against the court decision resuming the activity of Abu Bakr Mosque. "Therefore, resuming mosque's activity delays. We will expect the decision of the Court of Appeal," Imam of Abu Bakr mosque, Haji Gamet Suleymanov, told Trend on 30 October.   

Narimanov District Court of Baku has decided to resume activity of Abu Bakr Mosque.

Narimanov Community of Religious Men brought an action against Police Office of Narimanov district to resume mosque's activities.

The blast caused by the hand grenade thrown to Abu Bakr mosque by unknown man at 08:50p.m. on 17 August 2008, killed two and injured 19. The activities of the mosque were suspended after the blast. Elnur Bakhshiyev, of Sumgayit city, charged of committing an act of terrorism in the mosque, has been arrested.

Haji Gamet said that he has not information on requirements of Narimanov District Police Station and the date of consideration of appeal.

"We have been expecting for more than two months. It means that we support peace, we are away from radicalism and do not act against statehood. Therefore, the mosque will remain closed unless the consideration of appeal ends," Imam said.
