Most applicants for refugee status in Azerbaijan are from Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan
Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 17 / Trend , K.Zarbaliyeva/ The majority of applicants for refugee status in Azerbaijan are citizens of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.
"The Azerbaijani State Migration Service has received about 100 appeals to for refugee status. Only one person was granted the status," Arzu Rahimov, the head of the State Migration Service, said at a news conference, answering a question from Trend on Dec. 17. Rahimov did not publicize the name and the citizenship of the person.
All other applications, Rahimov said, were either not accepted for processing or declined after being reviewed by all involved agencies. In addition to the State Migration Service, other relevant bodies conduct their investigations and submit reports that are reviewed for the final determination of each case, Rahimov said.
