Admission of documents announced to vacant judge positions in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 22 / Trend , K.Zarbaliyeva/ Admission of documents for vacant judge positions was announced in Azerbaijan on Dec. 22.

The Judges Election Committee discussed existing vacancies and needs in judge staff at the last meeting and decided to announce the next admission of documents of judge candidates, the Juridical Legal Council told Trend on Dec. 22.

At present there are 61 vacant judge positions, the Juridical Legal Council said.

A total of 55 people, who gained success in multistage election procedures comprising 800 candidates, were appointed judge in 2007 and 102 people - in 2008.

As a result of rise of judge staff and their appointment in line with new rules, number of judge staff was increased from 23 to 38 at the Supreme Court and doubled - at appeal instance courts, increasing from 49 to 106.

Number of judges at Baku district courts was raised from 45 to 88.

The Juridical Legal Council cancelled 30 judges' authorities ahead of time.

Courts of Appeal were established in Ali Bayramli, Ganja, Shaki and Sumgayit at the President's decree, dated Jan. 19 2006. Number of judge staffs was reached 485. Azerbaijan ranks last amongst the European countries on number of judges.
